A Place for Rhythms & Movement

Garden of Healing Yoga & Wellness is a beautiful space that would make a great setting for anyone looking to start a local group of students, looking for intimate performance space, or looking to be part of a growing drum & dance community.

I realized my passion for and reconnection with drumming when I met Marla Leigh Goldstein & Carolyn Koebel @ one of Raquy Danziger's retreats in the Catskills. I still consider myself a novice but I opened this center with the intention of doing more of the things I love & offering that to others. Drum and dance an integral part of how we explore life, love and Self at the Garden!

It’s been an honor and a sheer pleasure to host Marla & Raquy at the center when they make their way to the East Coast. Also on that amazing guest list over the years is John deKadt, Ganesh Kumar, Hari Krishna, Dalien 13 Hands, Rami el Asser and the rest of Raquy’s ensemble DUM, Bright Hawk and many more. In recent years, Hub City Drum n Dance formed as the official project to organize residencies and workshops with such greats as Alessandra Belloni, Will Ruiz and Raíces; as well as provide off-site interactives and performances for Raritan River Fest, Ciclovia, RWJ Community Health, local schools, nursing homes and more.

We delved into Build-A-Drum workshops and wow! What an awesome experience that leaves one with a deeper appreciation for drums, drummers and drum makers. It’s an intense, multi-day process where participants bond with their drums and with each other. We’ve brought modified versions of this to in-patient addiction recovery groups and other programs with great engagement, great feedback.

Over the years, Drum n Dance has grown not only as its own program but also as a support/extension/catalyst in the Yoga & Meditation offerings, No surprise, really. As we say “YES!” more and more to Life, the integrated nature, the connectedness at the heart of all practices becomes increasingly clear. The more we experience, the more the realization of our collective journey.

As of 2020, Hub City Drum n Dance is housed primarily at the Garden’s sister site- Ile Alafia House of Well-Being. Situated next to a local park, Ile Alafia serves as the location for in-house indoor and outdoor events. And continue to look for us at the community events as they unfold. We welcome you to visit us at our place or at a local gathering.
